One of the last bits of life admin you usually consider when moving to a new home is updating your addresses. So, to help make your move a little less stressful, we’ve compiled a list of some important places where you might need to update your new home address.
- Credit Cards
These can usually all be updated on their respective websites, depending on who you bank with or hold other financial products with. Check their website first to see if you can change it easily online before calling their customer service team for help.
- Place of Employment
- Pets/Vets (Microchip)
- Children’s School
- Children’s Clubs
Most schools and children’s clubs will have to be contacted directly, either over the phone or by email, to update your children’s new address.
Depending on your place of employment, you may have an online portal to quickly update your personal details. Otherwise, your HR department can update your details or show you how.

- Mobile Phone Account
When you move to a new home you may decide to take your existing utility providers with you, or shop around for a new provider. Regardless of your decision, you will need to inform your utility provider(s) at your previous address of a change of address, and a cancellation (if necessary).
You should be able to update your address registered to your mobile phone billing account through your network provider’s website.

- MyGov (Medicare, ATO, Centrelink)
You need to update your address with the Australian Electoral Commission when you move to ensure that you can still vote. You can do this online.
Your driving licence address can also be updated on your local state’s government website.
For other government agencies, such as the ATO, Welfare and Medicare, you will be able to update your address on the centralised MyGov website, as all of these services are linked.

You don’t usually have to update your address details with the medical practices you’re registered with immediately. It’s often OK to wait until the next time you visit to provide your new details. If you want to get ahead and update them when you move, you can call the practice and update your details over the phone.
For many other address changes, including rewards and loyalty programs, club memberships, subscriptions and charities, these can all be done by using their respective websites.
Car Rego needs to be updated within 14 days of moving address so new address labels can be sent out to you. You can do this using your local government website.
