The Accidental Death Plan is all about peace of mind. It’s designed to help secure your family’s future by providing them with a lump sum payout if a tragic accident happened to you.

Others may call it “fine print” but at InsuranceLine we think it’s important to be upfront and honest with you. So here are some important things you might want to know about the Accidental Death Plan.

If there’s anything else you’d like to know about the Plan, please call us on 13 77 87 and we’ll be happy to answer your questions. Our Product Disclosure Statement which you should consider, provides more details. Also, please refer to our General Advice Statement

Q: What's the definition of 'Accidental Death'?
A: Accidental Death means death which directly and independently of any other cause, is the result of bodily injury caused directly and solely by sudden, violent, accidental, external and visible means and which occurs within 365 days of sustaining that injury.
Q: What is and isn't covered?
A: The Accidental Death Plan is a life insurance policy insured by TAL Life Limited ABN 70 050 109 450 AFSL 237848 but it only covers death as a result of an accident.

You’re covered for any type of Accidental Death, except if your death is either a direct or indirect result of:
  • actual or attempted intentional self-injury or suicide;
  • the taking of intoxicating liquor or drugs other than those prescribed by a medical practitioner and taken in the correct dosage;
  • participation in a criminal activity;
  • war, hostilities or war-like operations (whether war is declared or not), civil commotion, civil war or rebellion, but not terrorism;
  • any period of time spent in any country which the Australian Government has at that time advised against all travel;
  • undertaking a dangerous occupation (including, but not limited to, test pilot, explosives workers, underground miners, bomb disposal workers and over 20m high window cleaners). This does not include normal travel to and from dangerous occupations; or
  • participation in a dangerous pastime (including, but not limited to, professional sports, hang gliding, underwater diving beyond 30 metres, motor car or motor cycle sports, speed contests, skydiving, parachuting and flying in an aircraft (other than a fare paying passenger or aircrew travelling in a duly licensed aircraft engaged in public transport service)). This does not include normal travel to and from dangerous pastimes.
Q: When does my cover end?
A: You must be aged between 18 and 69 at the time of your application. As long as your premiums are paid when due, your cover will continue right up until the Plan’s anniversary after you turn 70.

Your policy will end on that date and no further cover is provided.
Q: Will my premiums ever go up?
A: It is important to note that the underlying premium rates are not guaranteed. However, you will never be singled out individually for a premium rate increase, and any increase will only apply to all policyholders using the same table of rates. You will be given at least 30 days' notice of this.

As you'd expect, your premiums will also go up if you add another person to your policy or increase the amount of your cover. This also applies if you have 'Inflation Protection' on your policy, where your cover goes up each year according to the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or 5%, whichever is greater.

Your premium rate will not go up just because you get older.
Q: If I cancel my policy, will I get anything back?
A: If you cancel within 30 days of your receipt of the policy you will get a refund of any premiums paid. However the Accidental Death Plan is not a savings plan and has no cash value, so if you cancel after the first 30 days you won’t get any premiums back.
